The College Dropout

According to AP, Maryland today approved a plan to give its electoral votes for president to the winner of the national popular vote instead of the candidate chosen by state voters. The plan would only take effect if states representing a majority of the nation's 538 electoral votes decided to make the same change.

Personally, ever since the 2000 election I've been griping about the Electoral College and its back-asswardness, even though the electoral college might well have come to the same decision if not for "alleged" vote-stealing and other despicable activities, but we'll never know for sure, because Congress and the Supreme Court-- okay, I can't continue down this path until I've perfected my time machine. I need to break to watch the Boxer-Inhofe video one more time and get re-centered.

...

The point is, even though it could come back to bite us in the ass if the popular vote goes Republican, we view this as an advance. The rest of the world is, naturally, mystified by our "democracy" wherein the winner of the popular vote does not win. This makes it possible for every vote to count, for candidates to travel around the country rather than focusing on those diva "battleground" states, for a truly national presidential campaign.

Go Terps!
